Additional Special Services:
In addition to our 10:30 am weekly worship service, Central Presbyterian Church has a variety of what we call “Special Services”, which allow us to celebrate or reflect depending on the occasion and season. Here are just a few of those services held annually.
We start off the beginning of the Christian Calendar Year with a “Hanging of the Greens” service the first Sunday of Advent. Special music, readings, and decorations all begin to focus us towards the upcoming Christmas season.
The Children’s Christmas Pageant is always a special part of our Advent celebrations. Held during the evening one Sunday in Advent, the children help remind us of the true meaning of the season.
On Christmas Eve, we celebrate the birth of the Christ child with a Candlelight Communion service at 5:00 pm.
On Ash Wednesday, following our mid-week meal and classes, we gather in the Sanctuary for a meditative service to begin the season of Lent, including a ceremony of imposition of ashes.
Our Holy Week services begin with our Palm Sunday service, led by the Children’s Choirs. We continue to follow the path our Savior walked with an evening Communion service on Maundy Thursday, followed by an evening Tenebrae service on Good Friday. Sunday morning, we gather on the banks of Cater’s Lake to sing and celebrate with our Easter Sunrise Service. And finally, we end this most holy of weeks with our 10:30 Easter Communion Service in the sanctuary.
During the month of September, we celebrate the church’s anniversary with a Homecoming service and luncheon with a guest minister.
In October and May, our Children’s Choirs lead us in a special worship service, focused on the theme of the music they have been learning in the fall and spring. Also in the Spring, our Youth lead us in a special service celebrating all their accomplishments and preparing our graduating seniors for their next steps in life.
In November, we have a special Thanksgiving Meal and casual Worship Service, held in the Fellowship Hall.
